Iran’s Kheibar Shekan mid-range ballistic missile marks a shift towards solid fuel technology, offering increased maneuverability, shorter launch times, and posing challenges to modern air defense systems. Experts emphasize that the Kheibar Shekan system and the Kheibar (Khorramshahr) system are two different systems in terms of design and purpose, although they are often grouped together as part of the “Kheibar family.” The first version of the Kheibar series appeared in 2017 when Tehran introduced the Khorramshahr-1 missile during the “Holy Defense Week” parade. This missile was 13 meters long and 1.5 meters in diameter. The second generation “Khorramshahr-2,” introduced in 2019, was equipped with a guided warhead and had a total weight of around 20 tons. Then came the fourth generation, Khorramshahr-4, announced in May 2023, during which Iran did not disclose whether the third version (Khorramshahr-3) was being developed or its technical specifications. However, military sources confirmed that this version may exist and have advanced capabilities that have not been disclosed for security reasons. The Kheibar missile is characterized by design elements aimed at reducing detection or prevention capabilities, especially the reduction or elimination of traditional aerodynamic control surfaces, reducing resistance, and increasing speed and accuracy.
